Description
Known by many names: "The Big Muddy," "Mighty Mo," "Wide Missouri," the Missouri River drains nearly one-sixth of the area of the United States. Stretching 2,341 miles, it was once unarguably the longest river in North America. However, changes to the channel designed to make it easier to navigate by boat reduced the number of "meanders," and it's length is now similar to that of the Mississippi River.
This photo is taken toward the end of the big river's journey ~ about 150 miles from where the Missouri River empties into the Mississippi.
