Description
This has to be one of the most interesting parks in Missouri. Giant boulders which began as molten magma began forming 1.5 billion (with a "b") years ago. As the magma cooled, and many years of erosion took place, these red granite boulders were formed.
In many places the rocks line up like a long chaine of circus elephants, giving the park it's name. In shady areas, the rocks are covered with slow growing lichens and mosses, which take years to grow even a half-inch. (Elephant Rocks State Park, near Belleview, Missouri)
