Description
I found this very interesting looking moth on the facing around our garage door. After looking him up online, I discovered that he (or she?) is a Royal Walnut Moth (Citheronia Regalis), named because in their caterpillar stage, nut trees are their favorite hosts. Evidently they live in much of the eastern half of the U.S., except for the northern states. The website said that they range from about 4 to 6 inches across -- but I'd guess this one was closer to 4". This is the first one I've seen, but I thought his fuzzy legs were pretty cool looking!
