One of the oldest congregations in Southern Boone County, Missouri, New Salem Baptist Church was established the second Saturday in November, 1828. It could even be called a "Mother Church," since it begat at least three other local churches: Mount Pleasant, Ashland Baptist and New Liberty. Situated at the top of a hill north of Ashland, Missouri, the congregation is still vital and active today. The cemetery, wrapped around three sides of the church, is the final resting place of many of Ashland, founding families.
