Artist's Description
This Callaway County barn was built in the 1940s from lumber cut from the farm. The logs were cut by hand, and then hauled to a sawmill set up in the woods. After the barn was built, a public dance was held in the hay loft. A piano was hoisted by ropes up through the door in the hay loft, and temporary stairs were added to get to the loft. The barn has sheep and milking stalls, and was used as a cattle barn in later years. This image is number eight in my Quilt Barn Collection. (Northern Callaway County, Missouri)
